Wanna make a statement and look good doing it? Most political t-shirts available online were designed by stoned activists fumbling around in Microsoft Word. For your sense of fashion as well as your sense of civic duty I’ve collected a few politically powerful t-shirts that spread the word and are well-designed.
Is it Charlton Heston in full makeup? No! It’s George W. Bush and he’s leading the four horsemen right to your doorstep…or at least to the feet of the republican party!

I don’t get this t-shirt. I mean, Iraq is west of the eastern U.S. isn’t it? Therefore it should be covered by Manifest Destiny. Seriously though, isn’t this just another Heston Planet of the Apes t-shirt?

Sure it’s violent but if capitalism would just skip the bull it would certainly be easier than greasing the pockets of the local third-world oppressive government.

I love anything with the word “super” in it…Super-duper, Supertoys, Superman, and of course supper-time (minus the second “p” it’s super-time and that’s what supper is…SUPER!). When I saw Superhick06 I knew it was a t-shirt for me. It’s tough to find t-shirts in the played out arena of hicks but this one satisfies my snobby standards (I think it’s the headphones with the dual antennae!).

Nothing special at no star. It’s a fitting name for them since their collection has potential but nothing stands out. I guess if I had to pick one it would be for the ladies…

Lately I’ve been warming up to joke tshirts and of the mainstream sites Bustedtees has some of the wittiest ones around. They also have a great user interface with large tshirt thumbnails and a nifty availability chart on the tshirt’s full page. I actually laughed out loud at many of their shirts! I dug around a little bit on the site and found out that Bustedtees is affiliated with Collegehumor.com, which is certainly not a bad thing.
Bustedtees does have some of the typical joke tshirts that are seemingly everywhere, but there are a number that are rather unique and rather funny. My personal favorites are Visit Cuba!, Florida…Stay Awhile!, Pierce & Pierce and Don’t Talk to Strangers.

I’d like to take all the joke t-shirts on Funk Unlimited and bury them in the woods…except the Forest Shirt. Sure the saying is stolen from any one of a hundred or so National Park websites and it’s not even a joke. There are also hundreds of cruchy t-shirts with the saying slapped across the chest surrounded by air-brushed bears and eagles. None look as good, however, or are as cheap. Maybe I’m pushing it, just trying to find something, anything, of value on this run-of-the-mill site. Nah, it’s still a shirt I’d wear…especially for under ten bucks!

I have found my new favorite t-shirt site…of the moment. PalmerCash.com. At first the site comes across as yet-another-funny-saying-t-shirt website but it truly has some very nice finds. All one has to have is a little patience and twenty or so minutes.
Before I get to the quality shirts, I’ll start with the website itself. PalmerCash.com is like a fine seventies era den built for the ease of getting your guests trashed. The t-shirt icons are easy on the eyes save for a few overly dark ones. I also love the wrinkled t-shirt full view look. It really lets one see the fabric (those AA t-shirts look so soft!). The pages also show up to 60 icons at once making for quick window shopping. The only thing missing is a filter for all of the t-shirts with tired ironic sayings .
The t-shirt designs run the gamut from artistic and trendy Option-Gs to the previously mentioned ironic/humorous sayings to thick’n sturdy symbolism from the old U.S.S.R. (remember those cats?). Highlights are DNA, Huey, KGB Badge, Eagle Shield, De Luxe, Skeleton Lady, and about thirty other t-shirts. I also have a confession…there are even a few humorous t-shirts that I would wear (I can’t tell you which ones though!).
PalmerCash.com has clever copy in both the t-shirt descriptions, FAQ and elsewhere. They carry both mens and womens t-shirts plus a small selection of jackets. Enjoy!

The Office t-shirt by Panic Goods Apparel (reviewed here) immediately caught my eye not only because it is named after a terrific BBC television series, but because of the large, rectangular photo slapped across the front that immediately reminded me of four hours of Windows Office application testing hell that I once endured at a San Fernando Valley temp agency. The only differences between the office I visited and the one depicted on The Office were the people’s haircuts and the health of the plants in the rear corner. I mean, the guy on the front right has better hair than Jefferson D’arcy, and that is a feat! Actually, now that I look closely, the guy on the right resembles Ted McGinley…and the woman on the left resembles Marcy D’arcy! If only the guy in the back looked like Griff, then this shirt would morph into some crazy, 80’s portent of one of my favorite 90’s television shows. If only….
Follow up:
Wow! I get postive reactions to The Office every time I wear it! Most people ask what the image is supposed to be and when I tell them that I think it’s just some old stock photo, they inevitably comment on the archaic technology and/or plastic plant. The shirt fabric itself has held up admirably to three months of Coin-op laundering. No pills or shape shifting.

The first thing one notices about Panic’s online store is it’s shopping cart. It is extremely simple and easy to use. Just select the size, amount and color and drag the shirt to the blue Shopping Cart box at the bottom of the page. If you make a mistake, simply drag the shirt off and drop it anywhere (where it cleverly poofs away in a cloud of smoke). I did encounter some bugs in the drag and drop functionality but a page refresh always fixed the problem. Entering the required payment information was quick and painless and very straightforward. I received a confirmation email almost instantaneously (I hate waiting for confirmation emails…I always think my order failed!).
The shirt arrived (reviewed here) within five days of my order (I honestly forgot exactly what day it came!). I actually got my hands on it a day later since my mailperson was kind enough to leave it on the bushes (I enter through the back door). The t-shirt, printed on an American Apparel blank, was quality as usual.
